In Warren Beatty’s “Reds,” he portrayed an Italian-American communist; in Joe Johnston’s “The Rocketeer,” a mob leader; in Oliver Stone’s “Nixon,” Henry Kissinger; and in Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet,” Fulgencio Capulet.
