A COSPLAY model killed her boyfriend by stabbing him in the back as she allegedly said “f***ing die” – and now she’s claiming self-defense.
Melissa Turner, 29, was convicted of second-degree murder on Friday over the death of her boyfriend at their home in 2019.
Cops found 25-year-old Matthew Trussler dead with stab wounds and lying in a pool of his own blood at their Hillsborough County Home on October 18, 2019.
Turner was arrested the next day and later charged with a single count of second-degree murder.
During her trial, she told jurors she was trying to defend herself after her boyfriend allegedly began choking her in a fuel-induced fit of rage.
Taking the stand on Thursday, Turner tearfully recalled how her Trussler had woken her in the middle of the night after a full day of drinking and the couple began arguing.
When a fight broke out, Turner claimed her boyfriend began choking her and threw her across a counter before grabbing a knife.
She told the courtroom that she feared that Trussler “was going to kill me” and so when he put the blade down to start strangling her again, she picked it up and stabbed him in the back.
But earlier this week, prosecution witness Detective Ryan Lagasse – who was first at the scene – told jurors video evidence showed Turner yelled “f***ing die” as she stabbed her partner.
Footage captured from a neighbor’s home surveillance camera recorded Turner breaking a glass and saying “so f***ing die” and “so f****ing arrogant, I hate you”.
John Trevena, the suspect’s attorney, claims the footage “manipulated” Turner’s voice but admitted it was her.
“Expert testimony from our audio/video expert Bruce Koenig [is] that the Nest video/audio recording from a neighbor across the street was manipulated in select areas to amplify the volume to make it sound like Ms. Turner was screaming much louder and the portions wherein the alleged victim is speaking are completely inaudible,” he told Law & Crime.
“Further, there are the issues of self-defense and heat of passion.”
However, authorities are asking why the accused murderer waited four hours to notify authorities about her boyfriend’s death and allegedly changed her story just hours after deputies arrived on the scene and found her covered in dried blood, according to Law & Crime.
Hillsborough County Fire pronounced Trussler dead at the scene and the county’s Chief Medical Examiner later determined the victim had a defensive wound in his right forearm.
Dr Mary Mainland said Trussler also had a large cut to his upper bicep, his middle chest, and a small cut on his right shoulder as well as a large wound in the middle of his back.
Court documents submitted last week revealed that Turner turned down a plea deal that would see her serve 25 years in prison.
She will also see the home she and Trussler bought months before his death taken from her due to foreclosure.
